Debbie Simpson
Board of Directors
A former PwC partner, Debbie Simpson retired in June 2021 from her role as Chief Financial Officer and Head of Functions for BCG. Debbie, a champion of Digital Ventures at BCG, aspires to impact business in the future through Board and advisory roles, leveraging her finance, digital, and international skill-set to help a diverse set of purpose-driven private and public companies, while also serving the Board of Plan USA, a girls rights and development organization.
At BCG, Debbie was CFO for 12 years, and Head of Functions for 8 years, and served as a core member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Operating Committee, and Audit and Risk Committees, as well as other management and oversight teams. Debbie joined BCG as a partner in 2001 (from PwC), to assist the firm in its global expansion, as well as oversee its expert finance functions and HR operations (including compensation, benefits and mobility), before becoming CFO in 2007. Debbie helped manage BCG through the 2008-2009 financial crisis and subsequent years of high growth, as BCG tripled in size over her tenure, and deepened its global footprint, with more than 20,000 partners and staff located in 90+ cities in more than 50 countries today.
During the last five years at BCG, as BCG invested in new business models and Digital businesses, Debbie played a critical role in developing those operating models, supporting investments, and working with the firm’s partners to expand and integrate new capabilities into its client offerings.
Since retirement from BCG, Debbie has begun to quickly grow her Board experience. Beyond five years experience sitting on the Board of BCG’s Digital Ventures unit, Debbie is also on the Board of Trax Retail, a $170m revenue leader in digitizing the retail shelf, and serves as Board Chair for Formation, a start-up company in the personalization space. Debbie is also advising Digital Ventures, BCG, two funds, and vorteXplore. VorteXplore is taking a new approach to employee listening.
